This year’s Employment Law & Legislative Conference, scheduled for March 4 – 7, is shaping up to be one of our best ones yet. In addition to our lineup of keynote speakers and nearly 30 concurrent sessions on employment law and legislative topics, we’ve confirmed a bipartisan lineup of leadership from Congress to speak throughout the conference.
This is the largest contingent of Congress ever to speak at a SHRM conference, so watch your in-box for information on whom they are and when they’ll be speaking. The real meat of the conference kicks off on Monday morning, March 5, with SHRM’s Vice President of Government Affairs Mike Aitken’s Public Policy Update.
Following Aitken will be noted political pollsters Peter Hart and Neil Newhouse (pictured above). Hart and Newhouse will help you decipher why there’s so much uncertainty in the Republican Presidential Primary to date, as well as understand what critical challenges confront President Obama as he seeks reelection to a second term. There they’ll also touch upon where things stand 8 months out from the election, where Republicans and Democrats will be battling for control of the House and Senate in 2013.
If that’s not enough to wet your political appetite, nearly 30 concurrent sessions will be available on employment law and legislative topics, and participants will have the opportunity to spread the HR perspective on two public policy issues pending before the Congress.
On Monday and Tuesday evening, there will be two networking events. Our opening night Welcome Reception will take place at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian - an beautiful space and only minutes from the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. This event will be a great opportunity for conference attendees to chat and network with other attendees, public policy decision-makers, outside media and SHRM staff. We’ve also organized a Super Tuesday Watch Party for the evening of March 6, where attendees can catch the latest updates on how the 10 GOP primaries and caucuses are shaping up on that evening.
Note: The hotel cut-off for this conference occurs at midnight tomorrow, February 10. To guarantee the reduced room rate under the SHRM room block, make your room registration online today! And while you're at it, consider signing up for the Premium Package Upgrade - which affords you unlimited online access, 24 hour a day, 7 days a week, to sessions from the conference and earning up to 20 Recertification Credits.
