SHRM members from the areas of York, Pa., and Prince George’s County, Md., recently traveled to Capitol Hill for separate Day Inside the Beltway (DITB) events. The goal of their meetings was to encourage permanent renewal of Section 127 [See related article]. The provision is scheduled to expire on December 31.
In discussions with their senators and House representatives, our members strongly urged support of the Employee Educational Assistance Act of 2010. The bipartisan bill introduced by Representatives Earl Pomeroy (D-ND) and Sam Johnson (R-TX) would make Section 127 permanent.
As the summer comes to a close, other SHRM members are planning to visit with their legislators – either in their districts during the August recess or when Congress returns to Washington after Labor Day.
