SHRM Tampa Chapter Comes To Washington
Fall has arrived in our Nation’s capital and there’s no better time for SHRM members to visit Washington for a Day Inside the Beltway. Last week, six members of the HR Tampa Chapter visited their legislators on Capitol Hill.
The Tampa members visited the legislative offices of Congresswoman Kathy Castor (D-FL) and Senators Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Mel Martinez (R-FL). During their visits, members shared their views about such issues as Workplace Flexibility and Leave Policies, Tax Benefits for Employer-Provided Education (Section 127), and Gender Discrimination. To view a brief summary of these issues, including SHRM’s position on each, please click

Day Inside the Beltway events provide HR professionals with an opportunity to share their hands-on experience and be a valued resource for elected officials and their staffs when workplace issues come before the Congress. Cheri Farnham, a member of the Tampa delegation summed it up best: "I am grateful that SHRM and HR Tampa are paving the way for us to make a difference. If one HR professional can make a difference — imagine what several of us can do."
