Member News: Nick Camelio and Barb Astler

Nick Camelio has been appointed vice president of human resources at Burlington, Mass.-based Demandware, Inc., a global leader in on-demand commerce. Camelio brings more than 18 years of experience leading global technology companies in all aspects of human capital initiatives. In this role, he will lead and develop the strategic HR function and oversee global people strategies, talent management, and learning and development across Demandware.

Prior to joining Demandware, Camelio served as senior vice president, human resources, at Salary.com, a leading software-as-a-service (SAAS) provider of talent management and compensation software and solutions. There, he led the company’s strategic HR initiatives and programs and developed a world-class learning and development function for the firm as well as cutting-edge compensation and employee reward programs. Prior to joining Salary.com, Camelio served as vice president of human resources at BrassRing Inc., a leading SAAS provider in human capital management. Prior to this, Camelio was head of HR for the Northeast Region of Vignette Corp., an enterprise software company. Camelio has also held senior HR positions at IBM and Lotus Development Corp.

Camelio holds a B.S. degree from Bentley University. He is a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Global Remuneration Professional (GRP) and Human Capital Strategist.


Barb Astler has been named to the newly created post of vice president of human resources at MedData, a Brecksville, Ohio-based provider of medical billing services.

The position is being established to assist MedData as it strives to enhance corporate culture and streamline the HR function. Astler, reporting to CFO Dave Lamm, will be responsible for recruiting seasoned professionals in the revenue cycle management industry and for developing leadership that fosters an environment of transparency, engagement and forward thinking.

Astler’s HR career spans 20 years, 18 of which were spent in the health care arena. Prior to joining MedData, Astler served as vice president of human resources with Medfinders, a staffing services entity that provided nurse and allied staffing services in the U.S. The company recently merged with AMN Healthcare, the nation’s largest provider of health care staffing and workforce solutions. At Medfinders, Astler handled HR for multiple health care staffing brands.

Previously, she was employed as vice president of HR by Cross Country Healthcare, a leading provider of comprehensive health care staffing and workforce solutions. The programs for which Astler was responsible earned national recognition from Working Mother magazine and Training Magazine for four consecutive years. Additionally, Cross County Healthcare was recognized as the No. 1 company for employer best practices in Florida while Astler served in the HR function.

Astler earned a B.S. degree from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla., and holds an MBA from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Fla.
