Mary E. Pivec has joined Williams Mullen’s Washington, D.C., office as a partner. The noted labor and employment attorney has more than 25 years of experience advising employers on a broad range of workplace and labor relations issues. She represents employers in employment and whistle-blower claims, including handling investigations, hearings and appeals brought under the False Claims Act, the Sarbanes Oxley Act, the Consumer Product Safety Act, the FDA Food and Drug Modernization Act, the Surface Transportation Assistance Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the energy and environmental safety whistle-blower statutes.
Additionally, Pivec has represented employers in civil and criminal worksite enforcement cases, I-9 compliance counseling and audits, immigration-related discrimination claims litigation, and H-1B/Labor Condition Application investigations and enforcement proceedings brought by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division. After graduating magna cum laude from Towson State University, Pivec received her M.L.A. from Johns Hopkins University and earned her J.D. from University of Maryland School of Law.

Anita Brandenburg, SPHR, director of human resources of The Chattanoogan hotel, has been honored with the James House Williamson Award. Brandenburg received the award at the Tennessee Human Resource Conference, held in 2011 in Chattanooga, Tenn. The award, which is the most prestigious one given in Tennessee to a human resource professional, recognizes the work of those who have made significant contributions to the industry.
The award is a tribute to James House Williamson, who is best known for establishing University of Tennessee’s Extension Centers in Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis, Tullahoma, Oak Ridge and Martin. Brandenburg joined The Chattanoogan before the hotel opened in 2001. She has more than 22 years of human resource experience in positions of increasing responsibility.
Brandenburg is active with the Tennessee HR State Council and has served as state council president, SHRM Foundation Chair and secretary for the Tennessee HR State Council. In addition, she has served on the Goodwill Business Advisory Board and Urban League of Greater Chattanooga. She has been the campaign chair for United Way of Great Chattanooga Campaign and has worked closely with the Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse helping clients get back into the workforce.
