Douglas G. Gilbert joined Heenan Blaikie as a labour partner in 1991. Heenan Blaikie is a national law firm, with one of Canada’s pre-eminent labour and employment law practices. Beyond its national footprint, Heenan Blaikie has established a continental and international profile in labour and employment law. Heenan Blaikie is the Canadian member of Ius Laboris, a global alliance of human resources lawyers. Before entering private practice, Mr. Gilbert served as Director of the Ontario Ministry of Labour’s Policy Branch. Gilbert provides advice and representation to Canadian and multi-national employers in the following areas of practice: collective bargaining, labour relations board applications, collective agreement arbitration, and in respect of claims for wrongful dismissal and discrimination. Gilbert advises and represents business organizations in their efforts to shape labour policy. He is a member of the Transportation Law Association, a cross-border organization dealing with labour and other aspects of air and ground transportation in North America. Gilbert is also a member of XHBR (Cross Border Human Resources), an international association of lawyers and HR professionals dealing with the human resource challenges of the multi-national employer. He is the co-author of Canadian Labour and Employment Law for the U.S. Practitioner, BNA Books, 2nd Ed. Kenyetta V. Haywood has 20 years of experience as an employment law and labor law attorney. She was Director of Grievances and Arbitrations for an organization with 18 unions and held labor relations positions with the City of Chicago and the National Labor Relations Board. In addition, she has led human resources and employee relations functions for international, national and complex organizations in the public and private sectors. Also, as a training consultant she led diverse seminars for the American Management Association and U. S. Office of Personnel Management. Haywood is currently the Director of Compliance in the Quality Assurance Department for the School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC) , the 11th largest school district in the country with 21,000 employees. Her job duties include performing human resources, labor relations, employee relations, legal, administration and operations functions. She was previously the Director of Employee Relations for the SDPBC. Overall she has a track record of providing strategic human resources leadership, establishing successful business partnerships, resolving workplace controversies, strengthening labor/management relations, improving productivity, and enhancing morale. As Assistant Division Director for the King County Dept. of Natural Resources & Parks’ Wastewater Treatment Division, Lorraine Patterson assists the Director in managing all aspects of the division with a primary focus on the day-to-day business operations, administration of human resources, labor management activities for the organization, and oversight of the Productivity Initiative, which is a unique incentive-based business model under which the organization operates.
