Dear Antoinette Knechtges,
Dear Antoinette Knechtges,
As we approach the Holiday Season, I want to wish each of you a very Happy Holiday Season and a safe and healthy New Year.
As an SHRM member, you know the value of your membership in the national organization, which represents the voice of the Human Resources profession. There is a wide range of assistance available with the push of a computer key. We are glad that you are connected to the organization in this very special way.
Many SHRM At-Large members are not aware of the benefits of joining a local chapter. With the local chapters, you have access to resources right in your own back yard. Most of the chapters in Michigan hold monthly program meetings with a speaker, and they have a variety of networking opportunities for you. I would like to encourage each of you to attend one of those meetings, just to see what it is all about.
One of the things I felt was most beneficial when I first joined my local chapter in Detroit was the ability to use other members as sounding boards for a particular problem or challenge I was facing. HR can sometimes be a very lonely profession, but with a network of support such as a local chapter brings, you can gain help and assistance from folks who may have faced the same situation.
There are 18 local chapters in Michigan. You can find the one nearest you by visiting our Michigan State Council Web site at: http://www.mishrm.org/. We hope to have one new chapter in the Petosky area in the very near future.
Perhaps you joined us at our recent state conference in Bay City. If so, I know you had the opportunity to meet new people in the profession from across the state and to help your own professional growth by taking part in the many seminars/workshops that were offered. If you missed the 05 Conference, please mark your calendar now for our 06 State Conference. It is to be held in Grand Rapids on September -22. I hope that you will consider joining us as we continue to bring Michigan92s HR folks a great opportunity to get connected to one another and to learn from each other.
Between now and then, you will have the opportunity to attend the SHRM National Conference in Washington D.C. The conference is going to be held June 25-28, 06. I hope that you are able to join others from across the country at this annual event.
If I can be of any assistance to you in your pursuit of professional excellence, please let me know.
