100 Jobs for 100 Kids
Yakima Valley Human Resource Association partnered with OIC of Washington, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and Safe Yakima Valley to provide a job fair and large-scale workshop opportunity for over 300 youth in the Yakima Valley area, focusing on:
*Job seeking skills such as completing applications and interview skills (including mock interviews)
* Applying for jobs on-site with local businesses
*Free training/certifications such as food handler cards (through grants secured by our committee)
Ultimately the Chapter succeeded in rallying many business leaders to provide an excellent half day workshop/job fair and placed over 100 youth into paid summer internships to help them develop their skills as they became inspired to set ultimate career goals. The Chapter volunteers found it extremely rewarding to work with the youth, many of whom had never been asked the question, "What do you want to do when you grow up?" Many of the children were in need of adult interest in their future and also in need of positive encouragement to help build their confidence that they can have a career goal and even achieve it someday! By targeting the lowest-income areas of our valley, the Chapter believes that the program reached those with the highest need for this excellent opportunity.
