We would like to highlight some of the services and other information available to assist you in your new role as chapter president.
Fundamentals of Chapter Operations - This resource manual contains information on chapter operations and SHRM services for volunteer leaders. It is recommend that you download this manual and distribute copies to your board members.
Online Volunteer Leaders Resource Center - A wide array of resources is also available through on the SHRM web site. Our Volunteer Leaders Resource Center can be found at http://www.shrm.org/vlrc, and contains everything from model chapter bylaws and job descriptions to approved logo graphics and general SHRM information. Check it out!
SHRM Guide to Chapter Financial Management - This guide is designed to assist you in successfully managing the financial affairs of your chapter. You may wish to download copies for your Chapter Treasurer and other chapter officers.
SHRM Affiliate Program for Excellence (SHAPE) - The SHAPE program has multiple components. The Planning Workbook outlines the requirements and expectations in algining with SHRM's mission and vision. It may be used as a stand-alone tool to assist in planning the chapter's scope of work for the calendar year or in conjunction with other tools such as the Strategic Planning Toolkit. The Year-End Report captures a chapter's accomplishments and level of award recognition. The Year-End Report is due January 31 for the work completed the previous calendar year. It is a prerequisite for eligibility for the Chapter Financial Support Payment Program (CFSP).
Chapter Financial Support Program - The SHRM Chapter Financial Support Payment Program is designed to aid chapters in meeting their financial needs. This program returns a portion of each member's national dues to a chapter. To be eligible for the SHRM Chapter Financial Support Payment Program, a chapter must submit a completed SHRM Chapter Achievement Plan and a chapter membership roster by January 31st of each year; continue to meet the requirements for chapter affiliation; and have a chapter president who is a current member in good standing of the Society for Human Resource Management.
State Council - As chapter president, you have the opportunity and responsibility to represent your chapter as a member of your SHRM State Council. In addition to providing a communication link between the chapters and SHRM, the State Council is a forum for the exchange of ideas and information concerning chapter administration and the HR profession. Your State Council Director will be contacting you directly regarding upcoming meetings. Feel free to contact your State Council Director if you have questions.
As chapter president, you are the central contact for your chapter. Throughout your term of office, you will receive a variety of resources and materials. We ask that you please share the information with your chapter leaders and members and to be responsive to SHRM representatives.
In addition, it is important that you keep your Regional Team informed of any changes affecting your chapter leadership (new officers, changes in contact information, etc.). If you have not yet provided your Regional Team with an updated list of your chapter officers and directors for the coming year, please do so. We appreciate chapters submitting their new board members' information by the end of the year so we can add them to our mailing list by the start of their terms in January.
