The deadline is approaching for organizations to submit their entry to the AARP Best Employers for Workers Over 50 award that the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is co-sponsoring.
Nov. 12, 2012, is the deadline for applications for the award, which is given out every two years. The winners will be announced at the 2013 SHRM Annual Conference, to be held in June in Chicago.
The award recognizes organizations whose policies and practices appeal to workers age 50 and older, such as training opportunities, flexible work options, and competitive health and retirement benefits.
In 2011, Scripps Health topped the list of 50 U.S. winners; it was the seventh time it had been a recipient of the award. It was singled out for its flex time, phased retirement, formal job rotation, strong wellness programs, generous health benefits for retirees under and over 65, and its ongoing relationship with retirees.
AARP recognized its first group of winners in 2002, and its website includes a list of best employers and descriptions of programs that made them stand out.
The award is open to employers headquartered in the United States that have at least 50 employees. It is open to for-profit and not-for-profit companies, educational institutions and local, state and federal government agencies. Entries will be judged by an independent research firm and a panel of judges comprised of national experts.
