Of the two-thirds (66%) of organizations in the construction, mining, oil and gas industry that were hiring full-time staff in the fall of 2011, about one-half (51%) reported difficulty recruiting for specific open jobs. The five most difficult positions to fill for the construction, mining, oil and gas industry are engineers (88%), high-skilled technical (e.g., technicians and programmers) (79%), managers and executives (76%), skilled trades (e.g., electricians, carpenters) (68%), and sales representatives (60%). This is the first of eight industry-level SHRM Poll findings on how the recession is impacting employers in the U.S.
