Janet N. Parker, SPHR, Immediate Past Chair
Janet Parker is executive vice president of human resources at Regions Financial Corporation in Birmingham, Ala. Regions Financial Corporation is one of the top 10 banks in the nation with nearly $140 billion in assets. Regions serves customers in 16 states across the South, Midwest and Texas. It is one of the nation's largest full-service providers of consumer and commercial banking, trust, securities brokerage, mortgage and insurance products and services. Parker’s department has responsibility for providing strategic HR direction to Consumer Services, Business Services and Mortgage. In addition to the above, she provides leadership to the bank's Management Associate program. Prior to joining Regions Financial Corporation, Parker held various senior HR positions in small and medium sized organizations in non-profit, insurance and manufacturing.
A SHRM member for 20 years, Parker has held a variety of local and regional volunteer leadership positions including chapter president for BSHRM (Birmingham Society for Human Resource Management), state council director for Alabama, area vice president, SHRM Foundation Campaign Chair, secretary on the 2004 SHRM Board of Directors, director on the 2005 SHRM Board of Directors, chair-designate on the 2006 SHRM Board of Directors, chair on the 2007-2008 SHRM Board of Directors. and Immediate Past Chair on the 2009 SHRM Board of Directors. In addition to her volunteer leadership roles, she has testified before the Senate Finance Committee and was the 1997 recipient of the SHRM Capital Award that recognized outstanding contributions to SHRM's governmental relations initiatives. In January 2008, Parker was appointed by President Bush to serve on the President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy. Her role on the Council is Chair of the Workplace Subcommittee.
Parker has also taught courses for HR Certification at Jacksonville State University and is involved in various community events including assisting local agencies with financial literacy efforts. She received her undergraduate degree from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama.
