, for a new one-time $1,000 education scholarship established in memory of Ann M. Byrnes, PHR, SPHR, who died May 27, 2009, from an aneurysm.
Byrnes, 54, was field services director for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Her affiliation also included serving as Ohio SHRM State Council Director in 2004 and 2005.
The three $1,000 scholarships are being funded from donations made to the SHRM Foundation in Brynes’ name.
The scholarships are for active SHRM members in good standing who were State Council Volunteer Leaders in 2009 or who will serve in that capacity in 2010. Examples of eligible SHRM volunteer roles include State Council Director or Director-elect, District Director, Secretary/Treasurer, State Conference Chair, Chapter President, and other key State Council Directors/Chairs. The scholarship is not open to SHRM student members and local-only chapter members.
The scholarship must be applied to a professional development program or education and used by Dec. 31, 2010. The money can be applied to HR certification; HR-related college or university classes; HR-related seminars; conferences, such as registration for the 2010 SHRM Annual Conference; and SHRM webinars. Funds may be used for multiple programs and classes.
Entries will be evaluated on the applicants’ SHRM volunteer experience (50 percent); community volunteer experience outside of SHRM (30 percent); and how the scholarship money will be used for professional development (20 percent).
Applicants will receive notification of their standing by March 15, 2010; scholarship checks will be distributed by early April.
