Jack Welch

Jack Welch, named “Manager of the Century” in 1999 by Fortune magazine, will be the keynote speaker at the opening day general session of the Society for Human Resource Management’s 61st Annual Conference & Exposition in New Orleans on Sunday, June 28, 2009.

He is the head of Jack Welch, LLC, where he serves as a Special Partner with Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, a private equity firm.

He is a consultant to IAC (Interactive Corp.), teaches a leadership course at MIT’s Sloan School of Management, is an author of international best-selling business books, co-writes the weekly BusinessWeek magazine column, “The Welch Way” with his wife Suzy, and speaks to audiences around the world.

Welch and his wife wrote Winning, (Collins Business, 2005), which hit No. 1 on The Wall Street Journal and international best-seller lists, and its sequel, Winning: The Answers (Collins Business, 2006). His autobiography, Jack: Straight from the Gut (Business Plus, 2001) was an international and New York Times best-seller.

In 1981 Welch began his more than 20-year tenure as General Electric Co.’s chairman and CEO. He tentatively is scheduled to talk about “changing to survive” in his keynote remarks, which are to be delivered in an interview format. He replaces Tom Brokaw as general session speaker.

More on Welch can be found at the couple’s web site, The Welch Way.
