HR Magazine, the flagship publication of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), won a Gold Award in the publishing industry’s coveted Eddie Awards, which were presented by Folio: magazine during its annual conference, held Nov. 1-3, 2011, in New York City.
The largest and most inclusive annual award program of its kind—spanning all corners of the magazine publishing industry—recognizes the best in editorial and design. HR Magazine’s June 2011 issue won the Gold Award for Best Single Issue in the category of association/nonprofit business-to-business publications produced six or more times a year. The issue was among more than 2,000 entries and 400 finalists selected in all categories of the Eddie (editorial) and Ozzie (artwork) Awards.
“The award from Folio: is exciting recognition from our publishing community peers that the quality of HR Magazine, when compared with other consumer and business-to-business publications, is regarded as among the best in the U.S.,” said Gary Rubin, SHRM’s senior vice president for publishing and e-media. “In addition to this award, last year the magazine also won a Jesse H. Neal Award, considered within the business-to-business publishing community to be the equivalent of winning a Pulitzer Prize.”
Diversity Trailblazer
HR Magazine and the HR Certification Institute were among six recipients of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (NAAAHR) Presidential Leadership Trailblazer Awards, which were given out during the organization’s annual conference, held Oct. 20-23, 2011, in Washington, D.C.
Established in 1998 by NAAAHR, the awards recognize “leaders who consistently demonstrate a strong commitment and dedication to the disciplines of human resources and diversity,” according to the organization’s website. In 2011, NAAAHR focused on educational institutions and media publications.
HR Magazine was recognized for its “inclusive spirit” and for demonstrating “excellence in increasing knowledge, awareness and visibility of HR, training and diversity professionals throughout the global marketplace,” wrote NAAAHR National President and Chief Executive Officer Carl C Jefferson in a letter to SHRM.
“To be honored by both the HR community for the work we do on behalf of our members, and also by our very discerning peers within the publishing community, is so gratifying,” Rubin said. “It is validation that our work is contributing to creating better workplaces and a better world, and we could not be more pleased that our staff has received such broad recognition of their talent and dedication.”
Other recipients were the Alliance for Board Diversity, Diversity Executive magazine, Uptown Professional magazine and Georgetown University.
