Fareed Zakaria, Ph.D., host of CNN’s hourlong international-affairs program “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” will bring a global perspective to the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) 2013 Annual Conference & Exposition in Chicago, slated for June 16-19.
The award-winning journalist and best-selling author will be the keynote speaker at the conference’s June 16 opening general session.
Zakaria joined Time magazine in 2010 as editor at large; he writes a biweekly column and frequently contributes to the magazine’s cover stories. “GPS” premiered in 2008 and received an Emmy nomination that year. He hosted the weekly PBS program “Foreign Exchange with Fareed Zakaria,” from 2005 to 2007. He has been a columnist for The Washington Post since 2000.
Zakaria is the author of the international bestseller The Post-American World (W.W. Norton & Co., 2012). The foreign-policy specialist also wrote The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad (W.W. Norton & Co., 2007), which made The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post best-seller lists; and From Wealth to Power: The Unusual Origins of America’s World Role (Princeton University Press, 1999). He is the co-author of The American Encounter: The United States and the Making of the Modern World (Basic Books, 1998). He was editor of Newsweek International magazine for 10 years, before he joined Time.
Esquire magazine wrote in 1999 that Zakaria—then 35 and the managing editor of Foreign Affairs magazine—was becoming “the most influential foreign-policy adviser of his generation.”
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale and a doctoral degree from Harvard, along with honorary degrees from numerous universities. In 2010, Foreign Policy magazine ranked him as No. 27 on its second annual list of its “Top 100 Global Thinkers.”
Zakaria joins the following lineup:
