SHRM’s Strategy Conference Brings Together Best Minds in HR
HR executives and business leaders gather in Palm Springs to share strategies to meet today’s workplace challenges
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 13, 2012 — As business and the workplace continue to change, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is gathering human resource executives and other business leaders for a top-level discussion of how to develop creative and effective business strategies.
WHAT: SHRM 2012 Strategy Conference

BEING RELEASED: During the conference, SHRM will announce:
• The winner of the Michael R. Losey Human Resource Research Award, a $50,000 prize given annually to further the field of human resource management;
• The results of the 2012 Job Satisfaction Research Report.
CONFERENCE DETAILS: More than 500 high-ranking HR professionals from a diversity of industries will attend the three-day conference hosted by SHRM’s chief human resources and strategy officer, Jeff T.H. Pon. Keynote speakers include:
• Linda Rottenberg, CEO and co-founder of Endeavor, speaking about employees who develop entrepreneurial solutions to business challenges;
• Deepak Chopra, author and physician, on leadership.
Concurrent sessions will be offered in three formats to meet the educational needs of attendees: case studies, conversations that matter and traditional sessions. Sessions include “Managing Employee Moral and Ethical Dilemmas” and “Creating a Healthy and Engaged Workforce.”

THOUGHT LEADERS RETREAT: Leading up to the Strategy Conference, the SHRM Foundation will host its annual Thought Leaders Retreat, an invitation-only event for more than 100 top-level HR executives and CEOs, at the Westin Mission Hills Resort & Spa.
With a theme of “Managing a Global Workforce,” the Thought Leaders Retreat will explore trends affecting work, cultural agility and social media tools in the global marketplace. Chief HR officers from multinational corporations, researchers and thought leaders outside HR will speak, including Rohit Bhargava, senior vice president of global strategy and planning at Ogilvy and author of Likeonomics, on “Why Likeability Is the New Competitive Advantage.”
The retreat will feature a special preview of the video “Hiring Heroes: A Case Study,” which profiles the military veteran-friendly workplace policies of Dollar General Corporation. Created with the support of the SHRM Foundation and the Ohio SHRM State Council, the video will be distributed to SHRM chapters as part of a commitment to military veterans and their families.
