SHRM-FWI Conference to Offer Employers New Tools for Creating Flexible Workplaces
Research on work/life in Congress to be released at Oct. 23-24 event in Chicago

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 25, 2012 – Practical strategies and tools to help employers create flexible workplaces that fit the needs of today’s workforce will be featured at the second annual Workflex Conference sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Families and Work Institute (FWI).

• FWI’s Ellen Galinsky, president, and Ken Matos, senior director of employment research and practice, and SHRM’s Shirley Davis, vice president of diversity and inclusion, and Lisa Horn, senior government relations advisor, will talk about the best practices from employers that are included in two new resources, WORKFLEX: The Essential Guide to Effective and Flexible Workplaces and the 2013 Guide to Bold New Ideas for Making Work Work.

• SHRM and the Congressional Management Foundation will release the first of three research projects about Congress — “Life in Congress: Aligning Work and Life in the U.S. House and Senate.” Foundation President and CEO Brad Fitch will summarize headlines from the survey and offer analysis.

• SHRM will release the 2013 Holiday Schedules Poll, which identifies the more than 30 holidays— including religious holidays — that employers observe.

CONFERENCE DETAILS:  The 1 ½-day Workflex Conference (hashtag #workflex12) includes six concurrent sessions about real-life workplace flexibility challenges and solutions that include practices such as flextime, job sharing, compressed scheduling, telework and phased-in retirement. In an interactive session on Wednesday, Oct. 24, conference-goers will participate in a lively discussion about reimagining the workplace and will identify the strategies and skills necessary to implement effective and flexible practices.

DIVERSITY CONFERENCE: The Workflex Conference is held in conjunction with SHRM’s Diversity & Inclusion Conference & Exposition (hashtag #SHRMdivcon), Oct. 22-24 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile.
