SHRM Employment Law and Legislative Conference

   1/27/2012

Remember when your parents used to toss this maxim out at the most opportune time?  It couldn’t be more on point than when relating to HR public policy. Fortunately, there’s a place where you can become an expert on these HR public policy proposals and other compliance and regulatory issues – any of which could affect how you perform your job. It’s a place where you can learn from and network with the nation’s top minds on workplace law issues, as well as with other concerned HR professionals like yourself.

SHRM’s 2012 Employment Law & Legislative Conference, scheduled for Mar. 4 – 7 at the Hyatt Regency-Capitol Hill, is the place to be to learn about and discuss emerging trends in workplace developments and to network and connect with public policymakers and your HR peers.

It’s also an opportunity to get an insider’s perspective on current regulatory and judicial proceedings that could have a drastic impact on your day-to-day duties as an HR practitioner. For instance, specialists involved with collective bargaining, employment verification and affirmative action compliance can learn firsthand what’s on the horizon in those areas from “Agency Update” sessions scheduled during the conference.

Finally, you can join your HR colleagues from across the country as they visit the Capitol Hill offices of their senators and representatives to let them know, in person, how pending workplace legislation affects you as an HR professional. In so doing, you join forces with the participants of HRVoice – many of whom have heralded the experience as the highlight of the conference. The appointments are scheduled by SHRM in advance, a briefing is held to familiarize you with current legislative issues and help you practice what to say during the visit.
