April 22, 2010, SHRM made another appearance before key public policy decision-makers as Chief Global Member Engagement Officer China Gorman (center-below) delivered testimony to the House Subcommittee on Workforce Protections in a hearing on H.R. 4855, the Work-Life Balance Award Act. 

This hearing comes just one month after SHRM participated in the White House Forum on Workplace Flexibility.

H.R. 4855, which is sponsored by Representative Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), Chair of the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections, would establish an award within the U.S. Department of Labor to recognize organizations that have innovative polices to help employees balance their work and life obligations.

China Gorman testified that SHRM supports this legislation because it affirms one of our key public policy principles: Encouraging organizations to be innovative and flexible can cause employers to better meet the changing and diverse needs of their workforce.
