The following is a list of recruiting materials and chapter resources available at no cost to student chapter leaders, advisors, and college relations volunteers. A brief description is provided for each item. After consulting the list, if you need to order materials, please call SHRM Student Programs at 1-800-283-SHRM.

Some materials can also be printed or downloaded from the SHRM web site for immediate use.

  • 50 Great Recruiting Ideas: An online brochure listing successful ideas for recruiting and retaining student chapter members. Find out what works for other chapters. Click here to view this brochure online.

  • Careers in Human Resource Management: Booklet outlining career options in the human resource field. Used to educate individuals considering a major/career in HR. You can also print this out here.

  • Catalog of Recognition & Awards Items: Visit the SHRMStore online to shop for items such as pins, coffee mugs, and desk accessories available for purchase. Items are suitable for chapter awards, speaker gifts, and prizes.

  • Creating a Mentor Program: This online document describes how to organize a mentor program between SHRM student and professional chapters. Sample forms and a suggested activities list are included. Print out this brochure.
  • How to Use the SHRM Logo: An online guide detailing the correct way to use the SHRM logo in local chapter publications, on letterhead, T-shirts, or other items. Includes camera-ready artwork of the logo for use by printers. Click here to view.
  • Student Chapter Affiliation Kit: Forms and application materials to affiliate a new student chapter of SHRM. Please download here.

  • Student Chapter Idea Book: An online collection of successful chapter program ideas. Click here to view the Idea Book.

  • Student Chapter Information Form: Due in the SHRM Student Programs office by September 30 each fall to maintain a chapter's active status. Use to report changes in chapter advisor, advisor's address/phone, or chapter officers. Click here to submit online.

  • Student Chapter Merit Award Application: The Student Chapter Merit Award Planning Workbook outlines criteria and scoring for the annual Merit Award program. Use as a tool in planning chapter activities. The award application is an online form.  The award application/report is due April 15. You can download copies of the Planning Workbook and access the online application/report form here.

  • Student Chapter Operations Manual: An online how-to guide for running your chapter. Includes how to organize your club, suggestions for chapter activities, and how to work with your sponsoring chapter. A must for student chapter presidents and advisors. Available here.

  • Student Membership Application: Form used to join the Society for Human Resource Management. Sent automatically to chapter advisors each January and August.  Download a copy of the paper application here

    Individuals may also apply for membership online.
  • Student Membership Benefits Guide: Booklet listing the benefits included with a SHRM student membership. Also explains eligibility criteria, how to join the Society, and the benefits of membership in SHRM. Includes a copy of the student membership application. Use for recruiting new members and educating current members on their benefits. Sent automatically to chapter advisors each January and August.


  • Working With Student Chapters Toolkit: An online guide for volunteers working with student chapters. This useful publication can be found online here and includes a wealth of information on starting a student chapter, effective chapter operation, and roles and responsibilities of student chapter advisors, local student chapter liaisons, and state college relations directors.
