The Young Professionals Advisory Council exists to serve the interests of SHRM young professional (YP) members and provide guidance to SHRM for attracting and retaining non-member YPs.   It also exists to ensure that SHRM YP activities are relevant to members and SHRM. 

HR Young Professionals (YP’s) Toolkit for SHRM Affiliated Chapters
The 2014 YPAC has produced the HR Young Professionals (YP’s) Toolkit for SHRM Affiliated Chapters to guide chapters in how to attract, engage and retain YP’s.  Further enhancement to this toolkit will continue through 2015.

Daisy Alviso
Alamo, Texas
Southwest Central Region

 Daisy Alviso is a well-rounded HR professional with twelve years of broad Human Resources experience with the financial services industry. In her current role, Alviso serves as a Sr. Employee Relations Specialist where her responsibilities include recruiting, FMLA leave administration, and employee and labor relations.
 
Alviso has a B.B.A. in Management with an emphasis in HR from the University of Texas Pan American, and is currently pursing her Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Our Lady of the Lake University. She earned her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification from the HR Certification Institute in 2011.
 
Her passion for HR is reflected through continuous involvement in local SHRM chapters, where she has served in various positions including College-Relations Chair, Legislative Chair, President-Elect, President, and Past-President. Alviso is currently District Director for the Rio Grande Valley on the Texas SHRM State Council. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, running, traveling, and volunteering within her community. Alviso resides in Edinburg, TX with her husband and son, and is excited about joining SHRM YPAC, where she looks forward to making an impact in the HR arena.

 

 

Dan Cross, PHR

Wilmington, Delaware

Dan Cross is particularly passionate about two things - basketball and human resources.  Unfortunately, Dan was never drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA) so he embraced a career in human resources instead.  Cross is currently a Sr. HR Consultant at Capital One, a U.S.-based financial services company specializing in credit cards, home & auto loans, and retail & direct banking products.  In this role, Cross partners strategically with internal business leaders and associates to integrate effective HR processes, programs, and practices into their daily operations.

Cross holds a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations, where he served as President of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) student chapter. Upon graduation, he joined the inaugural class of the Human Resources Rotation Program at Capital One, a 2.5-year leadership development program that develops skills through immersion in multiple HR disciplines. Cross also recently earned his Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and SHRM-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certifications.

An advocate for disability employment, Cross regularly volunteers as a vocational rehabilitation specialist and is a basketball and track & field coach for Special Olympics Delaware (SODE).  He remains active playing, coaching, and officiating basketball whenever possible.  Follow Cross on Twitter @CrossOverHR

 

 

Ashley M. Eckard
Rising Sun, MD

Ashley Eckard’s experience in HR started with a large healthcare company as a Recruiting Assistant and I discovered my passion for Human Resources.  With the encouragement of a great Mentor, she went back to school and earned my Masters in Organizational Leadership, then took a promotional opportunity as an HR Associate within the same company.  Eckard was supporting employees at various locations providing support with, on-boarding, conflict resolution, benefit administration and employment law.  

In 2012 Eckard took on a new role as HR Director for a rehabilitation and healthcare facility. Working directly with staff energizes her, and she has a deeper understanding of how important HR is to an organization.  In this role Eckard’s primary duties include employee relations, legal compliance, training/development, coaching, recruiting and oversight of payroll producers.

 Eckard is an active member of Delaware SHRM where she also serves on the Board of Directors as Public Relations & Communications Chair.  Eckard is also an adjunct professor for local colleges where she teaches HRM.  She actively serves on several different Boards in the community because she believes in the power of giving back to the healthcare industry and my profession. 

 In her spare time Eckard rides and shows horses.  She enjoys cooking, spending time outdoors, and traveling.

 

 

Kelsey Esquinas
Columbus, Indiana
North Central Region

Kelsey Esquinas is a Wright State University alumni, with an undergraduate degree in Humanities and a Master’s in Business and Organizational Management Counseling. The diversity of her Master’s program which includes a portion of studies integrated in Mental Health Counseling with the other in MBA courses motivated her into considering the Human Resources profession.

In 2011, she was hired to be a Human Resources Intern then as an Human Resources Representative with General Electric’s Aviation division in Vandalia, Ohio while completing her Master’s degree. For a year and a half she concentrated on recruiting, improving the hiring and on-boarding processes, as well as labor relations and employee empowerment in a plant of ~150 employees. Through innovative recruiting solutions, she was able to streamline their process by ~3 weeks and engage their workforce in sourcing externally.

Following her time with GE, Esquinas continued her HR career in manufacturing but moved to the automotive industry to be a Human Resources Generalist with the largest exhaust manufacturer in the world, Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies at their non-union plant of ~600 in Louisville, Kentucky. There she implemented several processes that supported the plants workforce stabilization resulting in reduction of turnover and absenteeism and even set “Best Practice” standards in regards to record retention for the division in North America. During this time, Esquinas was able to acquire her Professional of Human Resources (PHR) designation and is an active member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Since August 2014, Esquinas supports the US Division at Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies as the Talent Acquisition and Assimilation Manager by facilitating strategic recruitment processes and striving for excellence in becoming an Employer of Choice. Her passion for classic cars has been a huge inspiration for her continued motivation in the automotive environment. She is elated to join YPAC to have the opportunity to broaden her understanding of Young Professionals in the Human Resources discipline, collaborate, and learn as much as possible!  

Tom Eyberg
Overland Park, KS
Southwest Central Region


Tom Eyberg is a versatile HR professional with several years of robust Human Resources experience within the financial services, information technology and health-care industries. In his present role, Eyberg works as an HR Coordinator with responsibilities in; talent acquisitions, on-boarding, training/development, leadership development, employee relations, benefits administration and organizational improvement/mapping.

Eyberg has a B.A. in Psychology from Ashford University and is currently in pursuit of completion of the PHR designation through SHRM and HRCI’s credentialing bodies. He also plans to begin work on his MBA in the fall of 2015 with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Eyberg has a passion for the field of HR by getting involved in local SHRM communities/chapters and hopes to one day soon have an opportunity to assist by serving in various board positions. When not focused on HR, he is an avid automotive enthusiast who participates in local car clubs/events, volunteering with local animal shelters, exercising, reading, traveling and spending time with his family. He is thrilled to be joining the SHRM YPAC team and hopes to help extend a voice for the HR community to those who plan to enter the arena one day soon!

 

Chanel Jackson
Raymond, Ohio
North Central Region

 

 

Chanel Jackson is enjoying her new role as an HR Business Partner with Honda of America Mfg., Inc. in Marysville, OH. She has previous HR experience working with the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Thrashers and Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga. and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

Jackson has a background and passion for finding and selecting talented individuals from Entertainment to highly Technical industries. In her current role, Jackson supports Honda's new Performance Manufacturing Center that will build the next generation Acura NSX as well as a recently established Manufacturing Innovation Division. As an HRBP, she is responsible for working with Senior Management to understand the business/operational goals and develop, communicate and enforce HR efforts that align with those goals.

An Atlanta native, Jackson obtained her Master's of Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of Management in 2010. In her community, she serves on the leadership committee of the Columbus Young Professionals group that has over 17k members. In her free time, Jackson enjoys traveling across the US and abroad. Jackson resides in the Dublin, Ohio, with her 2 year old Maltese and fiancé Michael Nelson.

 

 

Brooke Liu-Boston
Caledonia, MI

Brooke Liu-Boston is a collaborative, human resources professional that is driven by the integration of HR strategy into an organization’s comprehensive business plan. Brooke is Corporate Project Manager and Human Resources Specialist for Acrisure, LLC, which is headquartered in Caledonia, Michigan. Acrisure is a national organization focused on excellence in risk management insurance, benefits design, and human resources outsourcing. In her current role, Liu-Boston is responsible for Acrisure’s talent acquisition activity, is a member of the merger and acquisition integration team, and facilitates other strategic human resources outsourcing initiatives.

In 2015, Liu-Boston will be concluding graduate work at Davenport University concentrating in Business Strategic Management. She also obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology and Anthropology from Grand Valley State University in 2011 and completed post-baccalaureate studies in Human Resources from Davenport University in 2012.  In addition to SHRM, Liu-Boston is a professional member of the Greater Grand Rapids Association for Human Resources Management (AHRM), Project Management Institute (PMI), and an Alumni of Alpha Omicron Pi.

Greg Low
San Francisco, Calif.

Greg Low is a global human resources strategist with broad human resources experience. He recently joined Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) as a Senior Business Partner in Human Resources.  JLL is a financial and professional services firm specializing in real estate services and investment management.  Greg ensures the flawless execution of human resources programs and practices.  He actively coaches and partners with business leaders and colleagues to execute plans that optimize talent through the facilitation of HR programs that enhance a culture of inclusiveness and diversity, linking development and leadership initiatives to business strategy and measureable results. 

Before JLL, Low led the global mobility (expatriate) program management at Prologis, the world’s largest provider of industrial real estate in markets across the globe with over $46 billion total assets under management. In addition, Low partnered with senior leadership and global stakeholders to help drive the development and refinement of global HR policies, programs, and integration efforts. This partnership focused on compensation and incentive management and building the HR analytics functions at Prologis.

Prior to joining Prologis, he was a human resources generalist at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, an international law firm. During his tenure there he gained extensive experience managing full-cycle recruiting, office expansions, benefits administration, and employee and management relations. Also, he managed attorney training and professional development projects, seminars, summer program communications, and outreach efforts.

When not at work, he enjoys competitive swimming, challenging origami, and planning his next exploration to a new country. He is a proud graduate from the University of California at Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in socio-cultural anthropology (Go Bears!) and is GPHR certified. He also volunteers with the Cal Alumni Association as a leadership scholarship reader and interviewer as he strongly values "paying it forward".

  

Jessica Lustig, PHR
New York, N.Y.

Jessie Lustig, PHR, is a passionate Human Resources professional with experience in the consulting, education and fashion industries. She is currently a Campus Recruiting Manager at Strategy& (Booz & Company), where she manages strategy and operations for recruiting at Columbia, Princeton, and UPenn. Prior to this, she was an Assistant Director of HR at the College Board, where she managed full-time recruiting and organizational development initiatives.

Lustig graduated from the University of Richmond (Go Spiders!) with a Bachelor's in Psychology and Leadership Studies. Lustig is very active in her local SHRM chapter HR/NY, where she is a member of the Board of Directors, and Chair of the new Young Professionals interest group.
 
Lustig lives in New York City and loves running, going to rock concerts, watching the NBA, and discovering the city's hole-in-the-wall gems. She is thrilled to be a part of YPAC for the second year in a row to serve the next generation of HR leaders. 

 

Jeromy Manke
Reno, NV
Pacific West Region

Jeromy Manke joined Strategic HR Partners, LLC, a consulting firm in Reno, Nevada, in September 2012 as an HR Associate. His focuses include providing Human Resource services and development strategies for small businesses, employee relations, HR legal compliance, and internal investigations.

Manke is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management and minor in Spanish. He earned his Assurance of Learning certification from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) shortly after. He is currently serving as the Young Professionals and Emerging Leaders Director for the Nevada State SHRM Council. Manke has experience both in the non-profit sector and in the field of employment law. 

 

 

 

Kevin Mottram
Issiquah, Wash.

Kevin Mottram was born and raised in Minnesota, and has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Human Resource Management, and a Master in HRIR from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management.

Post graduate school, Mottram began working at Microsoft in the HR Trax Rotational Program.  This program gave him exposure to many facets of HR – Talent Management, Staffing, and an International assignment in Dublin.  Mottram currently support a large engineering organization as an HR Manager at Microsoft.

Catherine Preim
Philadelphia, Pa.

Catherine Preim is currently the Human Resources Talent Strategist with NELSON, a national Architecture and Engineering firm. She is responsible for all things “Talent” related including recruitment and training for the entire organization. In addition, she assists with immigration management, FMLA administration, and benefits. Prior to joining NELSON, Catherine was a Human Resources Assistant with STV Incorporated, an Architecture, Engineering, and Construction firm. She is an active member of Philadelphia SHRM and currently serves on their Emerging HR Leader’s Committee which is dedicated to engaging local HR professionals with 0-8 years of HR experience. She is responsible for coordinating their networking events and is a liaison to one of the local Student SHRM Chapters.

Preim graduated Magna Cum Laude from Temple University’s Fox School of Business with a degree in Human Resource Management.  Originally from the suburbs of Philadelphia, she now calls the “city of brotherly love” her home. She is passionate about engaging young HR professionals and is looking forward to working on the YPAC.

 

 

Chris Stewart
Raleigh, N.C.
Southeast Region


Chris Stewart is the Human Resources Consultant for McDonald’s USA, LLC supporting the Raleigh Region. In this role, he leads the planning, consulting and execution of strategic people initiatives for corporate staff and nearly 800 restaurants in portions of: Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia that together serve more than one million customers each day.

A native of Dillon, S.C., Stewart brings over ten years of human resources, management and operations experience with various Fortune 500 companies across multiple industries. He is known for his innovative approach to employee engagement and forwarding thinking in relation to human resources business insights. Stewart is keen on emotional intelligence and utilizes those indicators to have crucial conversations across all levels, which prompts all parties involved to see the “big picture.”

In addition, to his duties with McDonald’s Stewart serves on the Board of Directors for John Avery Boys and Girls Club, Inc., participates in the National Urban League Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP) and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He was also elected to serve on the Young Professionals Advisory Council (2014) for The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management.

Stewart currently resides in Raleigh, N.C. and enjoys domestic and international travel, arts and entertainment, sporting events and being a foodie. 

Eve Sweeting
Punta Gorda, Fla.

After more than a decade in private sector human resources and management roles, Eve Sweeting recently made the transition into public sector employment to broaden her overall HR experience. Sweeting is currently an HR Generalist with the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners located in beautiful Southwest Florida. In her new role, her main focus is on compensation strategies and analysis, and performance management trends and best practices.  Former HR and management roles include the Human Resources Manager for a small business, overseeing all aspects of the employment cycle from recruitment to termination, and management of small teams in hospitality, retail, and non-profit settings.

Sweeting is proud to have served on the local Charlotte County Society for Human Resources Management board for five years, serving as President in 2012. She also served on the Charlotte County Young Professionals board for four years. She was honored to speak at the HR Florida Conference in 2010, focusing on Recruiting and Retaining Younger Employees.

Sweeting holds two Masters Degrees: an M.A. in Adult Education focusing on Human Resource Development from the University of South Florida, and an M.B.A. from Florida Gulf Coast University. She also holds the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute, and the SHRM-CP from the Society for Human Resource Management.

When she is not working, Sweeting enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children, and volunteering with various community organizations. She is excited to be able to serve SHRM YP’s and collaborate with an amazingly talented group of YP’s on the YPAC.

Callie Zipple, PHR
Milwaukee, Wisc.
North Central Region

Callie Zipple, PHR, is a Wisconsin native and resident who graduated from St. Norbert College in Green Bay, WI with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration with a Human Resources and Leadership focus.  

She served as the Intern in the HR Department on campus and upon graduation worked as a Staffing Consultant with Landmark Staffing Resources in Appleton, WI for a year and a half specializing in recruiting and staffing.  Zipple then accepted the role of HR Generalist at one of KI, Inc.’s manufacturing facilities located in Bonduel, WI.  

She served in that role for 2 years handling such tasks as recruiting, unemployment, leaves of absence, and payroll.  Also, from 2012-2013, Zipple served in a volunteer role with WISHRM as the College Relations Director.  Her primary duty in that role was to act as a liaison between national SHRM and student chapters throughout the state.  She was also responsible for coordinating a successful annual state student conference and competition.  

In December 2013, Zipple moved to Milwaukee, Wisc., where she began working with Adelman Travel in another HR Generalist role handling recruiting, performance management and EE relations.  In August 2014, Zipple accepted a position with Zebra Technologies as a Senior HR Coordinator and will be assisting the company with an expansion/acquisition.
