Opening General Session with Daniel Goleman
Thursday, March 30
2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Emotional Intelligence (EI), Daniel Goleman's groundbreaking international best-seller, has transformed the way the world educates children, relates to family and friends and does business. It has been translated into 30 languages, with over five million copies in print.

Dr. Goleman, a well-known psychologist, who does not discount the importance of IQ, believes it is not the sole measure of one's intelligence and potential. According to Goleman, EI (which involves self-awareness, emotional balance, motivation, empathy and social finesse) is a critical indicator of success in life. Although shaped by childhood experience, EI can be improved and developed by learning throughout life.

Dr. Goleman also is co-author of the 2002 release Primal Leadership: Learning to Lead with Emotional Intelligence—which unveils new scientific evidence demonstrating that a leader's emotional competencies have an enormous impact on group performance and an organization's bottom line. He is currently working on a new Harvard Business Review article (cowritten with Warren Bennis) on creating an organizational culture that fosters candor and trust.
