SPHR and GPHRGlobal Business Strategy and Cross Cultural Management (Part I)
Noon - 4:00 p.m.

Start your learning experience by attending a SHRM business education course. This session is available to full conference attendees as a preconference add-on. Seating is limited to 40 participants only—advanced registration and additional fees are required. To take advantage of this preconference event, please select "Full Conference plus SHRM Business Education" when registering for the conference.

The preconference session is broken into two parts. The first session is held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Noon, and the second session is held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 8:00 a.m.

The globalization process of U.S. firms continues to march on and employees have to join this willingly or unwillingly. For HR managers, the selection, recruitment, training and retention of talented employees for global assignments will become a top priority. This workshop will focus on linking global strategies with HR practice to provide applicable tools for you to manage the ongoing globalization process in your
organization more effectively.

This session will also provide an introduction to the concepts, challenges and complications involved in developing and executing a global strategy as related to HR function. Additionally, it will focus on the role of national cultures in the success and the failure of global strategies.

Presenter: Mahesh Joshi, Ph.D., associate professor of Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship, George Mason University, Fairfax, Va.; and president, Joshi International, Inc., Potomac, Md.

This preconference workshop counts toward the strategic management recertification requirement for individuals certified as SPHRs, as well as the international requirement for those certified as GPHRs. Attendees will earn 7.5 recertification hours upon course completion.
