SHRM Foundation Champions Program
Chapter Champion FAQs
Overview
Last year, SHRM chapters and state councils donated more than $400,000 to support the
work of the SHRM Foundation. This accounts for more than 60% of our annual
fundraising campaign! Thank you!
The SHRM Foundation’s Champions Program recognizes exceptional chapters and state
councils for their commitment, leadership and generous support to the annual fundraising
campaign.
To achieve Champion status, chapters or state councils must submit a registration form
by October 31 and:
- Make a chapter or state council contribution to the annual campaign
- Appoint a SHRM Foundation coordinator
- Educate members on the work of the SHRM Foundation
- Hold a special fundraising event to encourage individual contributions
Champions will be listed in the SHRM Foundation’s annual “Honor Roll” brochure, and will
receive recognition during the SHRM Leadership Conference in the fall. Champions also
receive an electronic copy of the Champions logo to use on their website and printed
materials. In addition, Chapter Champions receive an attractive, Olympic-style, gold
plated medal; State Council Champions receive a personalized certificate suitable for
framing.
Thank you again for your support of the SHRM Foundation. Your contributions
allow us to fund innovative academic research, educational programs, practitioner
resources and scholarships.

What is the role of the SHRM Foundation coordinator?
The SHRM Foundation coordinator is responsible for educating other members about the
Foundation’s work and encouraging the chapter, state council, and individual members to
support the Foundation’s work with their tax-deductible donations. Many resources are
available online, and the SHRM Foundation can provide Foundation coordinators with
annual campaign brochures and other materials to assist with their local efforts.
What kind of special event should my chapter or state council hold?
There are a wide variety of fundraising events that could be organized by chapters or
state councils to raise funds for the SHRM Foundation. Some of the most popular ideas
include holding a silent auction or a raffle*. Other special event ideas include
coordinating a community garage sale, publishing a cookbook, holding a benefit concert
with a local musician, or a hosting a used book sale. For the truly motivated, perhaps
you could organize a golf tournament, a tasting event with food donated by local
restaurants or wineries, a home/garden tour, or a craft fair.
In the coming months, the SHRM Foundation will provide some detailed guides on how
to organize special events, and will add a section to the website to share best practices.
Check back for updates, and if you have a great template or idea to share, please let us
know!
State councils may request an item from the SHRM Foundation to be used at their State
Conference in order to raise funds for the Foundation. Please contact Sandi Peyton,
speyton@shrm.org, for details.
Why does the SHRM Foundation fundraise?
The SHRM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizational affiliate of SHRM—however,
the Foundation’s work is not funded by SHRM membership dues. The SHRM Foundation
relies on the generous donations of HR professionals like you to support innovative
academic research, educational programs, practitioner resources, and scholarships.
Thank you for your leadership and supporting your profession!
