SHRM Alabama Delegation Canvasses the Hill

Earlier this week, 14 SHRM members representing chapters throughout Alabama travelled to Capitol Hill and personally met with both U.S. senators, as well as four of the 7 House members in the State's congressional delegation.

The group, pictured here with Representative Mike Rogers (R-3rd District), shared its views with their elected officials on Workplace Flexibility and Leave Policies, Tax Benefits for Employer-Provided Education (Section 127), and the RESPECT Act.

The Alabama State Council sponsors two "Day Inside the Beltway" events in Washington each year. As a result of these frequent visits, Alabama’s congressional delegation views SHRM members as a valuable resource – providing "real world" perspectives on how HR issues being debated in Congress will impact today’s workplaces.

These events provide HR professionals with a unique opportunity to share their expertise and influence public policy. If your SHRM chapter is interested in scheduling your own Day Inside the Beltway event, please contact Bernard Coleman, SHRM's Member Advocacy Specialist.
