50 Great Places to Work

There often is a problem with articles that describe great companies to work for: Once they’ve listed the bare essentials for 50 or 100 companies, there is no room left to explore what makes those businesses shining examples of good people management.

We’ve tackled that problem by providing more information than you normally see in such lists, and also by focusing it.

Go to our feature article, "Great Companies, Inspired Employees," and you can start reading about a trait that’s apparent among many of the companies on this year’s list of the Best Small & Medium Companies to Work for in America: They excel at engaging and empowering employees. See how these businesses get employees excited about the prospect of coming to work—and reap big returns as a result.

We've also provided profiles of companies we found noteworthy -- including the top small company, Analytical Graphics, and the top medium company, ACUITY.

You’ll also find an impressive amount of data listed on each company. (Data were compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute, which also ranked the companies. Great Place compiles lists in 25 countries for 31 groups, including the list published in Fortune magazine, which focuses on companies with more employees than those listed here.)

There’s a lot of great material here; to jump directly to the parts that interest you most, check the links below.
