Step 1: Get Started
The Introduction Section found in the software portion of the program includes suggestions for effective use of the SHRM Learning System.

The pretest software will help you determine which functional areas you may need to study. Based on the human resource test specifications as defined by HRCI, the pretest has 50 questions drawn from the six functional areas of HR management. You will be able to choose either the PHR or SPHR level and may change levels at any time.

You will receive immediate results that allow you to pinpoint your strong and weak areas to better prepare for the exam. Although this may not be an accurate indication of how well you will do on the HRCI exam, it helps you target your studies.

Step 2: Study the Modules and Complete Module Review Tests
After identifying your strengths and weaknesses, you are ready to review the individual modules. Each of the six modules is based on functional areas of human resources as defined by HRCI.

Step 3: Test Your Learning
You will conclude your studies by returning to the learning software for the bonus tests and posttest. The posttest includes 150 PHR- or SPHR-level questions drawn from all six functional areas. After you have completed the posttest, results from both tests will be displayed, giving you an opportunity to track your progress and identify areas in which you may need additional study. Complete the questions in the new interactive case study to test your ability to apply HR concepts in real-life scenarios.

Step 4: Final Review
When you've completed both levels of the program, you are ready for the final review. The final review presents the 1040 questions that appear in the software. If you are preparing for the SPHR exam or are interested in advancing your knowledge of the material, you also should review the 100 practice questions in the SPHR Preparation Book. Visit the Online Resource Center for additional information to aid your preparation.
