HR Trends & Practices
Understanding the Difference Between Contractors and Employees
May 2013 - Now Available

The government's definition of who qualifies as a contractor and who is an employee is murky. As the Labor Department steps up enforcement activities, a recent ruling by a Texas federal district court is significant: The court ruled against the Department of Labor in a case (Gate Guard Services, L.P. v. Hilda L. Solis) involving employee classification, marking the first time the government did not prevail in such a case. In this timely webcast, you will hear from one of the attorneys who represented Gate Guard Services in the case, Annette Idalski. Using insight gleaned from the court's ruling, she will describe how to determine whether someone is an employee or a contractor, how to document your decision, and how to defend yourself in the case of a Department of Labor audit. She will also provide guidelines you can share with supervisors throughout your organization so they can make safe and legal staffing decisions..

How to Turn Your Company into a "Best Place to Work"
June 2013
Sponsored by PurchasingPower
Most companies would agree that employee engagement and satisfaction are top of mind in the current economy. A strong labor force gives a company a competitive advantage and drives future growth. Unfortunately, according to a recent study by Carnegie Training, only 45 percent of employees are partially engaged, and less than one-third are fully engaged. Detroit-based Quicken Loans Inc., the nation’s largest online home lender and third largest retail mortgage lender, is consistently ranked in FORTUNE Magazine’s “Best Places to Work” list. In this webcast, Michelle Salvatore from Quicken will discuss how the company creates a stimulating culture through benefits, work environment, and communication.

In this program, Katherine Jones of Bersin by Deloitte will explore why the leading companies are the ones that can manage and report on all aspects of recruiting, training, performance and succession data from a single place.

Avoiding the Engagement Cliff
May 2013
Sponsored by Bunchball
Companies know they need to counter the effects of employee disengagement, and that anything they can do to motivate training and development, process adoption, collaboration, and job performance will have a significant business impact. The challenge is that traditional solutions often are only effective at engaging employee attention or adoption in the short term, but fail at driving sustained participation -- a phenomenon known as the dreaded "Engagement Cliff." In this program, Barry Kirk of Bunchball will explore what causes the engagement cliff, how understanding the concept of "Attention Currency" is critical to reversing this trend, and how the concept of "Loyalty 3.0" (the confluence of big data, motivation and gamification) is helping companies drive sustained and profitable engagement with their employees, sales teams and channel partners.
