The North American Human Resource Management Association (NAHRMA) was founded April 5, 1997 in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A., at a formal ceremony during the annual conference of the SHRM Global Forum (formerly known as the Institute for International Human Resources (IIHR), a division of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). NAHRMA membership represents over 175,000 human resource professionals. The founding members of NAHRMA are:

  1. Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA)
    Established in 1994, the Canadian Council of Human Resources is a collaborative effort of human resource associations across Canada who represent more than 15,000 professionals collectively. It is CCHRA's mission to establish national core standards for the human resource profession, foster communication among participating associations, become the recognized resource on equivalency for human resource qualifications across Canada an to provide a national and international voice on human resource issues. CCHRA is Canada's first national human resource association.

  2. Confederación Mexicana de Asociaciones de Relaciones Industriales, A.C. (COMARI)
    Established in 1965, COMARI promotes the interests of human resource professionals in Monterrey, Mexico and Guadalajara. COMARI represents 32 affiliated associations throughout Mexico, comprised of more than 1,500 members. The association provides its membership with technical information, publications and professional development opportunities in support of the HR function.

  3. Asociacion Mexicana en Direccion de Recursos Humanos (AMEDIRH)
    The Mexican Association in Human Resources Direction (AMEDIRH) is a result of a merger between AJRIAC and ARIVAMAC, both pioneer associations of Industrial Relations in Mexico since 1948. It is the largest and most recognized organization of its type in Mexico. Founded 53 years ago, currently has approximately 1800 companies affiliated throughout the country. The organization supports activities at the national and international level in both the private and public sector.

    AMEDIRH's goal is to provide industrial relations and human resource executives with reliable and consistent support, information, resources and guidelines in a timely and professional manner.

  4. Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
    The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the leading voice of the human resource profession. SHRM provides education and information services, conferences and seminars, government and media representation, online services and publications to more than 190,000 professional and student members throughout the world. The Society, the world's largest human resource management association, is a founding member of the North American Human Resource Management Association (NAHRMA) and a founding member of the World Federation of Personnel Management Associations (WFPMA).
