The Ongoing Impact of the Recession—Federal Government

 About two-thirds (68%) of respondents from the federal government were hiring full-time staff in the fall of 2011, a decrease from 76% in 2010. Of those who were hiring in 2011, about one-third (35%) reported difficulty recruiting for specific open jobs. The five most difficult positions to fill for the federal government are high-skilled technical (e.g., technicians and programmers) (81%), engineers (80%), managers and executives (65%), HR professionals (58%), and accounting and finance professionals (56%). This is one of the eight industry-level SHRM Poll findings on how the recession is impacting employers in the U.S.
