Membership Advisory Council (MAC)

The Membership Advisory Council (MAC) serves as an interface between the volunteer leaders and the SHRM Board of Directors. The MAC is composed of one elected representative from each of the Regional Councils. The MAC provides input from the membership through the regional councils to the board and feedback from the board to the membership, back through the regional councils; and provides operational input to SHRM to ensure optimum service/support to and from the volunteer leadership.

  • Laraine currently serves as the Director of Human Resources with Food Sciences Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of nutritional food, where she helps folks lead their best life possible.
  • She has over 30 years of experience in human resources including a Bachelor of Science in Economics degree from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania with dual concentrations in Organizational Management, and Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management. 
  • She became SPHR certified in 1999 and received her SHRM-SCP in November 2014.  She has served as an instructor of the SHRM Learning System for Rowan University since 2004.  
  • Her volunteer work through SHRM started in 1997 when she joined SHRM and her local chapter, Tri-State HRMA.  She has served on the Tri-State HRMA Conference Committee and served as conference co-chair from 2003-2006.  This then led to her role as chapter Treasurer, Vice President, President, Immediate Past President and current role as an active member of the Board of Directors and part of the Succession Planning Committee.
  • From 2007 to 2011, as chapter Vice President and then as chapter President, she participated in the Garden State Council.  Since 2011, she has been the Facilities Co-Chair for the annual state conference for about 700 attendees, sponsors and speakers.  In 2013 she was elected Director Elect and has served as State Director since 2014. 
  • In 2009 she was selected as Delaware Valley HR Person of the Year, an award coordinated and presented by seven participating SHRM chapters in the Delaware Valley, recognizing outstanding work in the field of human resources.   
  • Laraine sees herself as a business professional with a specialized knowledge in human resources. She enjoys participating in conversations that further the profession and those engaged in it.  She has built her career and her life on a foundation of trust, integrity and open communication.  She thinks strategically with a focus on both long and short term perspectives and tries not to lose sight of the effect decisions have on others.

  • Sharon is the founder and president of SLS Consulting, LLC, a human resources services and training firm. SLS consultants assist corporations in managing their U.S. employees, with clients headquartered in the United States, the European Union, Asia and the United Kingdom.
  • Sharon has 30 years’ experience in the HR field and has been a SHRM member since 1993. She is a proud member of the SHRM Advocacy Team and is an A-Team captain for her congressional district.
  • She has served on the South Carolina SHRM State Council for 11 years and was the 2014-2015 Director of SC SHRM. Sharon is also a past president of the Tri-County HR Management Association, a SHRM chapter in Charleston, SC.
  • Sharon has taught HR courses through Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC for 11 years, including the SHRM Learning System curriculum.
  • Sharon conducted webcasts in 2015 for SHRM on the topics of “Certification Preparation,” “The New SHRM Learning System from an Instructor’s Perspective,” “Investigations in the Workplace,” and “Effective Employee Training: Moving from Checking a Box to Changing Your Culture.”
  • She has been quoted as a Subject Matter Expert in local and national HR articles, including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the NY Post, the Charleston Post and Courier, and the Washington Post as well as interviewed on local television broadcasts regarding HR issues.
  • In June, 2015 Sharon presented testimony before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington, D.C. regarding “Retaliation in the Workplace: Causes, Remedies, and Strategies for Prevention.”
  • Sharon volunteers her time speaking to groups regarding domestic violence issues in the workplace. She is currently working with the South Carolina Domestic Violence Joint Task Force established by Governor Nikki Haley of SC to develop sample policies and guidelines to assist employers in helping their employees who are victims of domestic violence.

  • Dr. Denise Montoya serves as the Director of Human Resources for New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU). She is the President of P.S. People Strategy providing strategic planning, design and implementation of learning cultures, and human resources consulting services to a wide range of organizations. Dr. Montoya serves as the Director for the Society for Human Resources Management New Mexico Council (SHRM NM). She served on the boards for both SHRM NM and the Human Resources Management Association (HRMA) of New Mexico. Dr. Montoya was recognized by Albuquerque Business First as a Women of Influence Honoree in 2015 and was awarded the HR Volunteer of the Year by the HRMA of New Mexico presented by SHRM NM in 2011.
  • Dr. Montoya is a skilled leader in developing and implementing integrated strategic plans, cultivating the human performance programs necessary to achieve sustainable, scalable, successful results. She possesses almost three decades of human resource management and operational experience, focused on creating and sustaining an effective values-based culture, organizational planning and design, recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, employee development and training, peak productivity, quality initiatives, labor relations and collective bargaining, health and wellness programs, information systems, and policies and procedures. Dr. Montoya served as the former Executive Director of Human Resources (HR) with Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) and former Director of HR Client Services at the University of New Mexico (UNM). She is an accomplished faculty member and speaker instructing courses at NMHU, CNM, UNM Continuing Education, and ITT Technical Institute.
  • Dr. Montoya achieved her Ph.D. in Organization, Information, and Learning Sciences at UNM. She is a published co-author for topics including a Model of Shared Leadership as well as Building Trust in Virtual Teams. She holds two globally recognized certifications, the SHRM-Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), and the Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR) and previously has held a Professional of Human Resources (PHR).

  • Angie currently serves as the Director of Compensation & Benefits for Shoe Carnival, Inc. – one of the nation’s largest family footwear retailers with over 400 stores in 34 states and approximately 6,000 employees.
  • She has been an HR Professional for 20 years beginning as a student worker in the HR Department at her University. She has a B.S. degree in Accounting and an MBA from the University of Southern Indiana.
  • Angie just finished her second term as the Director for the Indiana SHRM State Council serving in that position for 4 years.
  • She became a member of SHRM in 2002, SPHR certified in 1998, and SHRM-SCP certified in 2014. She has taught the SHRM Learning System course since 2007.
  • Angie has served as a volunteer for SHRM since 2002 when she joined the board of her local SHRM Chapter, Evansville-Area Human Resources Association serving as Chapter President in 2006. In 2007, she joined the Indiana State Council serving as Membership Director 2007-08, District Director in 2009-11, and serving as State Council Director 2012-15.
  • Angie was awarded the HR Professional of the Year by EHRA in 2007, received the Award for Professional Excellence from Indiana SHRM in 2008, and also received the Volunteer Leader of the Year award from Indiana SHRM in 2011.
  • She has been a volunteer for Youth First Inc. since 2010 and served on their Board of Directors since 2013.

  • Roshelle has held a variety of leadership positions during her more than 20 years of professional HR experience.  She is passionate about the strategic role of HR as a valued business partner and believes it is critical to the success of organizations in today's modern economy. 
  • Roshelle recently started her own HR consulting company serving businesses throughout Washington.  She previously held the position of HR Director at Dade Moeller & Associates, Inc. at its headquarters in Richland, WA, where she led the corporate HR department to effectively support the company's business and organizational goals in addition to ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal HR requirements. 
  • Roshelle received a B.S. in Earth Science and an M.S. in Education from the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Brockport followed by an M.S. in Human Resources Management from Chapman University.  Roshelle received PHR certification in 2002, SPHR certification in 2006, and SHRM-SCP certification in 2014.  She also holds a Washington State Life/Disability insurance license and has been a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®) certified practitioner since 2012.
  • Roshelle served in several positions on the board of the PIHRA Coachella Valley chapter in California, on the Conference Committee for the Maryland SHRM State Council, and most recently has served the Washington State HR Council (WSHRC) as its Diversity Co-Director, Social Media Manager, Communications Director, Director Elect, 2016 Director, and will serve as the 2017 Past Director and SHRM Foundation Director.
