Gaslighting in the Workplace

Gaslighting is a form of persistent manipulation, marginalization and invalidation that causes the victim to doubt her or himself, and to ultimately lose one's own sense of objective perception, identity, and self-worth. A gaslighter's statements and accusations are often deliberate falsehoods, unsubstantiated exaggerations, negative judgments, and/or personal attacks. The term gaslighting originated from the 1944 film Gaslight, in which a husband systematically tormented his wife by causing her to doubt herself and her sense of objective reality, thereby convincing her that she's insane.
