Michelle Bottomley is a c-suite leader and board member with a proven track record in brand-building and increasingly digital and data-driven customer-centric growth. She has partnered with chief executive officers, operating teams and Board of Directors to enable short and long-term growth agendas bringing a diverse outside-in perspective from leadership roles as a corporate chief marketing officer, e-commerce business leader and advertising agency principal. As a modern marketer, Michelle brings a deep understanding of customer motivation and behavior across industries, including: financial services, retail, travel, professional services, publishing, packaged goods, and automotive. She serves as an independent board director at the Bose Corporation, the Society for Human Resource Management, Own The Room, and a Governance Fellow with the National Association of Corporate Directors. She is a past member of the Board at Barclays' Bank of Delaware. Michelle has written white papers on and been interviewed for articles on the power of experience brands, high-performing teams and people-first companies.

Throughout her 30+ year career, Michelle has worked with some of the world's best brands to steward modern marketing that delivers profitable growth. Her career began in the advertising agency world having learned the craft of brand stewardship and client growth from leading marketing services firms, including: Digitas (formerly Bronner Slosberg Humphrey), Epsilon and Ogilvy & Mather where she became co-President of New York then Chief Operating Officer after 10 years during a period of double-digit growth powered by branding, relationship marketing and digital. In 2008, Michelle shifted to lead change from within big corporates as Chief Marketing Officer with Barclaycard - the fifth largest credit card company in the world, Mercer - the world's largest human capital consultancy, Staples - the fifth largest e-commerce site during their transition from public to privately held company, and most recently, New York Life - the largest life insurance provider in the United States where she rebranded this iconic 175 year-old brand while instituting the customer-centric growth vision, strategies, programs and capabilities that lifts marketing and the organization to a new pathway for growth.

Michelle's board service brings the voice of the customer into the board room with the goal of supporting operating teams as they harness modern branding, digital, data, technology and personalized customer experiences to differentiate, deliver growth and future proof the firm. Michelle works with brands that are a force for good, able to help people make better decisions and have better lives, while delivering profitable business growth. Throughout her career she has built brands, digital experiences and modern marketing capabilities with high-performing teams that generate in-year revenue at significant ROI inspired by a clear and compelling vision and strategy anchored to clear metrics that enable organizational alignment and progress.  

As an career marketer, Michelle has been honored with numerous prestigious recognitions, including being named one of "New York's Most Influential Women in Marketing" by Agency Spotter in 2019, to the "Marketing 50" by World 50, the "Marketing Hall of Femme" by Direct Marketing News, one of the industry's "Women to Watch" by AdAge, and "Working Mother of the Year" by Advertising Women of New York.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Northeastern University in Boston and took courses toward a PhD in Economics at Boston University. Michelle lives in Princeton, New Jersey with her family.
