Amy Schabacker Dufrane, Ed.D., SPHR, CAE, has been appointed executive director of the HR Certification Institute (HRCI), an internationally recognized certifying organization for the HR profession.
Dufrane joined HRCI as chief operating officer in 2011. She has served as interim executive director since December 2012. Her new appointment became effective Aug. 2, 2013.
“I have worked with Amy over the last eight months, during her term as interim executive director, and have been impressed with her leadership, professionalism and dedication to the value of certification,” said Henry G. “Hank” Jackson, CPA, president and CEO of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), in a news release.
“Having Amy at the helm is good for both the Institute and HR professionals,” he added.
Established in 1976, HRCI is located in SHRM headquarters but has its own board of directors, budget and staff.
Dufrane previously served as chief administrative and HR officer of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board in Alexandria, Va., and senior director of HR and administration at the Optical Society located in Washington, D.C. She also worked in the HR department at Marymount University and Bloomingdales. She has been an adjunct faculty member at Marymount’s School of Business since 1998.
More than 125,000 HR professionals in 100 countries maintain HR Certification Institute credentials.
“Certification continues to grow, the number of applicants continues to increase, and the value of certification to individual HR professionals is more recognizable than ever,” Dufrane said in a news release. She added that she is excited to be a part of the Institute, and looks forward “to helping HR professionals grow in their careers.”
Dufrane has a doctorate in education from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.; a master’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in HR from Marymount University in Virginia; and a bachelor’s degree in management from Hood College in Frederick, Md.
In 2005 she received her certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources from the HR Certification Institute and in 2013 became a Certified Association Executive through the American Society of Association Executives.
