An initiative for emerging leaders, a pre-employment academy for veterans and certification webinars were among the 11 winning programs when the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) announced the 2013 Pinnacle Awards on Nov. 22.
The annual recognition program honored outstanding initiatives by nine chapters and two state councils. Winners were announced during SHRM’s annual Leadership Conference, which ended Nov. 23.
This year judging was based on chapter size, so those with similar membership numbers competed against one another. Chapter categories were those with 10 to 100 members, 101 to 500 members and more than 500 members. State councils remain a separate category.
Award entrants also were judged on whether their program served the HR professional, advanced the profession or enhanced the SHRM community.
Serving the HR Professional
Winning programs in this category reflect excellence in activities that support and promote professionals with HR responsibility to be successful business leaders. Activities may be related to certification, professional learning or skills development.
Chapter winners, by size and category:
Advancing the HR Professional
Winning programs in this category reflect excellence in advancing the HR profession by creating awareness among or supporting key constituents, including workplace, government and regulatory representatives, employers, schools, media and the community at large. Activities may be outreach and awareness programs, government advocacy or public affairs, or focused on key issues such as inclusion, diversity or workforce readiness.
Enhancing the SHRM Community
Winning programs in this category reflect excellence in providing programs and services that support SHRM, meet members’ needs, or further the chapter or state council efforts. Activities may include efforts to foster member engagement, retention and acquisition, volunteer development and recognition, or that support the SHRM Foundation.
Seventy-four applicants vied for the annual award that ADP Inc. has sponsored for more than 20 years. Each winning chapter and council receives $1,000. Chapter presidents and state council directors receive a diamond Pinnacle pin; board members of each of the winning groups receive replicas of the pin.
“Everyone at ADP is proud to sponsor this prestigious and unique program,” said Kelly Shanley, senior director of global events marketing at ADP. “You help your organizations focus on the most important investment they make: their investment in people.”
