Feb. 28 is the deadline to apply for an internship sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI). The opportunity is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are of Hispanic or Latino descent and who have an interest in HR. [SHRM members-only platform: SHRM Connect]CHCI is a group of 26 U.S. members of Congress who are of Hispanic descent. It offers programs to high school and college students as part of its mission to develop the next generation of Latino leaders. SHRM has supported CHCI's efforts since 2009, working to build relationships with its elected members in order to leverage SHRM's expertise as a thought leader on relevant issues on Capitol Hill. In 2016, SHRM and CHCI created a summer internship/scholarship program to support Hispanic youths with an interest in human resources. Each of the five students selected for the CHCI-SHRM 2017 Scholar-Intern Program will receive a $2,500 stipend. One internship will be in Chicago, one in Dallas and three in the greater Los Angeles/Orange County, Calif., area. Interns must reside in the community where the internship is located.Interns will work full time during the summer of 2017 and receive wages through the employer. Housing and transportation are not provided.Applicants must be undergraduates of sophomore standing or higher, or graduate students, and they must have at least one year of full-time enrollment remaining in their degree program.
