New Scholarship to Be Awarded in Memory of SHRM Field Director

​The SHRM Foundation will award a $2,500 undergraduate scholarship in 2020 in memory of SHRM employee Callie Zipple, SHRM-SCP. Zipple, who served as field services director for SHRM members in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin, passed away Sept. 12. She was 32 years old.

The scholarship was announced Nov. 14 during the opening session of the 2019 SHRM Volunteer Leaders' Business Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Zipple joined the SHRM staff in 2017. Based in Kenosha, Wis., she supported SHRM volunteers and was active in working with student members. Prior to that, she was a member of the Society's Young Professional Advisory Council and held several volunteer positions with the Wisconsin SHRM State Council. She worked in HR for seven years before coming to SHRM.

Application Information 

Applicants for the scholarship must:

  • Be a current SHRM member (professional or student).
  • Be enrolled in a degree-seeking undergraduate program with at least one full semester remaining before graduation (see additional clarification below) or accepted and ready to begin studies within six months.
  • Be in a degree program that is HR-related (business, psychology, HR, organizational development or other similar programs).
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
The university an applicant is enrolled in should be a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

Applications should include transcripts, in English, from the institution the student is attending; a current resume; one letter of reference; contact information; and short answers to questions about academic history, volunteer experience, work experience, career aspirations and financial need. The online application form will go live in 2020 on the SHRM Foundation web page.

Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated commitment to and passion for the HR profession.
  • Volunteer, leadership and service activities. SHRM experience preferred, but not required; work related to the SHRM Foundation's mission and vision to promote inclusive workplaces is highly desirable.
  • Academic achievement.
