Mark Schmit, Ph.D., SPHR, has been named the executive director of the SHRM Foundation. Since 2010, Schmit has worked as the vice president of research for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and has more than 25 years of experience in the HR management profession.
“The SHRM Foundation is pleased to welcome Mark Schmit. As an accomplished HR practitioner, he understands the needs and interests of the human resource industry and its professionals,” said James Schultz, HR general manager for the Chevron Corp., and chair designate for the 2013 SHRM Foundation Board of Directors. “Mark’s valuable knowledge and experience will guide the Foundation as it serves the profession through thought leadership, educational support and research.”
Prior to joining SHRM, Schmit was western regional vice president at APTMetrics in Denver. Schmit earned his doctorate and master’s degrees in industrial and organizational psychology from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, and graduated from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis., with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
“I am excited to bring both my extensive research and HR background to the SHRM Foundation,” Schmit said. “I believe that the Foundation is on a solid path to being among the most pre-eminent thought-leader organizations in the field of HR. I am very excited and enthusiastic to be joining the Foundation and helping to move it to the next level of excellence.”
In addition to Schmit’s appointment, three experts in the field of HR management were named as members of the Foundation’s 2013 board.
