Chief Global Finance & Business Affairs Officer Hank Jackson will serve as Interim President and Chief Executive Officer while a search for O’Neil’s replacement is underway.
O’Neil was brought in to serve as a change agent for SHRM in 2008. Having completed this objective, he has decided to return to his home in California to pursue other endeavors.
O’Neil leaves SHRM after leading the organization through a period of transformation and economic uncertainty. He was the driving force behind SHRM’s strategic business review, resulting in a new five-year business plan that expanded SHRM’s mission and agenda. With an increased focus on strengthening membership, developing new products and services, building global capabilities and engaging senior HR leaders and their organizations, the plan outlines a path for SHRM’s long-term growth.
Jackson has been with SHRM for four and a half years and leads many of SHRM’s critical business functions, including finance and accounting, information technology, organizational programs, publishing and e-media, and global marketing.
Previously, Jackson served as senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Prior to this position, he held several other roles at Howard University, including comptroller, deputy comptroller and systems accountant. Additionally, Jackson has held senior positions with Hurdman Main and KMPG as senior auditor and a computer audit specialist, and with the Southern Association of College and University Officers as a consultant on management information systems.
Jackson earned his bachelor of science degree in accounting from Stonehill College in Massachusetts. He is a certified public accountant.
