Bettina A. Deynes, , SPHR, IPMA-CP, has joined the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as vice president of human resources.
Deynes has more than 20 years of experience in HR, most recently as director of human resources for the City of Alexandria, Va., where she was responsible to the city manager for the effective and efficient management of all human resource responsibilities, programs and projects. Prior to that role, she was director of human resources for the National Association of Social Workers in Washington, D.C.

“Bettina Deynes brings to SHRM a diversity of experience leading HR in both the private and public sectors and the association community as well as commitment to the field of HR,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jackson, SHRM’s president and CEO. “We welcome her and look forward to her contributions.”
In 2006, she was named vice president of human resources for the Washington Nationals baseball club, where as part of her duties she was responsible for the development and establishment of effective human resource technology systems and was directly involved in the decision-making process for major management, finance, marketing and customer service challenges at the Major League Baseball franchise.
Deynes has served as a faculty member at Georgetown University, preparing curriculum and delivering workshops on management and executive leadership, and was the subject of profiles in HR Magazine and the University of Phoenix Focus magazine.
She is a board member of the Northern Virginia International Public Management Association for Human Resources. She holds an MBA and a master’s degree in international management from the University of Maryland University College and a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix.
Deynes’ appointment is effective Sept. 15. She succeeds Deb Keary, who retired this summer.
