The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest HR organization, and
HR People & Strategy (HRPS), whose membership consists of chief HR officers and other top executives, are forming a strategic affiliation. The two organizations announced their partnership on July 10, 2013.
Henry G. “Hank” Jackson, CPA, SHRM’s president and CEO, noted that the Society’s global community of more than 260,000 HR professionals, together with HRPS’ “exclusive community of HR executives,” will better position both organizations “to impact the practice of human resource management for business results globally, as well as deliver high-quality programming and services to all HR professionals, no matter where they are in their career.”
Kevin Rubens, HRPS board chair, called the affiliation a “major milestone” for HRPS and said it will provide it “with access to the professionals, resources and platform we need to advance our mission and create a stronger HR community.”
“Together with SHRM, we can better influence the development and impact of human resources as a profession,” he said in a news release.
SHRM board chair Bette J. Francis, SPHR, sees the alliance as “part of SHRM’s long-term strategic growth plan to be a resource for all segments” of the HR community.
“The new affiliation with HRPS allows SHRM to expand its community of senior-level HR professionals,” she said in a news release.

SHRM has worked with HRPS in the past. In 2012 the two organizations co-published an HRPS book,
Point Counterpoint: New Perspectives on People & Strategy, containing essays by 120 thought leaders from 14 countries. The book was so well received that SHRM reprinted it, said Christopher A. Anzalone, manager of book publishing at the Society.
In addition to its alliance with HRPS, SHRM joined forces with the
American Council on International Personnel (ACIP) in June 2012to pursue advocacy and thought leadership on pressing global talent management issues, such as immigration reform. Organizations with at least 500 employees worldwide and an operating presence in at least one location outside the United States may become ACIP members.
