The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has announced the appointment of Dr. Jeff T.H. Pon, HCS, as chief human resources officer. Pon will join SHRM’s leadership team on March 12, 2012.
In his role, Pon will oversee SHRM’s HR, strategic planning, and diversity and inclusion departments.
“SHRM is entering a new era as it broadens its body of knowledge and expands its global footprint,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jackson, president and CEO of SHRM. “We are excited Jeff is joining us and welcome his leadership and expertise as we serve our members and meet the HR community’s needs both in the United States and abroad.”
“I am thrilled to be joining this esteemed HR organization at such an exciting time,” said Pon. “The opportunity to contribute to SHRM’s efforts to strengthen its membership, build global competencies and engage senior HR leaders is a unique opportunity to give back to the profession that has given me so much.”
Most recently, Pon has been the president and COO of Futures, Inc., a talent management software company, where he has been instrumental in building career development and job placement partnerships for military veterans and their families. Prior to that role, Pon was a principal at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he served as a strategic human capital management consultant in support of U.S. federal government clients.
Previously in his career, Dr. Pon was appointed chief human capital officer for the U.S. Department of Energy. He also served at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management where he led the effort to implement human resources E-Government initiatives and the human resources line of business. In addition, he served as executive vice president of HR at Grand Battery Technologies and was responsible for U.S. and global HR functions.
Pon has co-authored and developed national human resource standards with the Corporate Leadership Council, Booz Allen Hamilton and the National Academy of Public Administration, where he also developed certified assessments for HR systems in the public and private sectors. He is a certified human capital strategist and said he plans to add SPHR to his credentials.
Pon is a graduate of the University of Southern California, with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and human factors, and Alliant University’s California School of Professional Psychology, with a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in industrial organizational psychology.
