SHRM Virtual Event Addresses HR Trends, Challenges

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) will offer “SHRM Live: 2016 Human Capital Challenges,” a real-time virtual event, from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. EST on Dec. 9, 2015.

Elissa O’Brien, SHRM-SCP, vice president of membership at SHRM, will moderate the event. SHRM leaders will speak on the following topics, presented in segments of 20 to 25 minutes.

The schedule:

  • 11:40 a.m.: “Lead in the Decade of Human Capital” by Henry G. “Hank” Jackson, SHRM president and CEO.
  • 12 p.m.: “Come to Grips with the Evolution of Work and the Worker: Major Global Trends” by Mark J. Schmit, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, SHRM Foundation executive director.
  • 12:25 p.m.: “Navigate Legislative and Regulatory Developments” by Michael P. Aitken, SHRM’s vice president of government affairs.
  • 12:50 p.m.: “Build HR Competencies to Find, Keep and Develop Talent” by Debra J. Cohen, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, senior vice president of knowledge development at SHRM, and Alexander Alonso, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, vice president of research at SHRM.
  • 1:15 p.m.: “Bring It Home: What Will It Take to Move Forward?” by a panel consisting of J. Robert “Bob” Carr, J.D., SHRM-SCP, SHRM’s senior vice president of membership, marketing and external affairs;Jeff T. H. Pon, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, SHRM’s chief human resource and strategy officer;and Bettina A. Deynes, SHRM-SCP, SHRM’s vice president of human resources and diversity.

The virtual event, sponsored by Bamboo HR, offers 2.5 professional development credits for SHRM-SCP and SHRM-CP recertification. The event is free for members and available to nonmembers for $49; the video presentation will also be available later on demand. Registration is available at
