ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Katherine Brean, SPHR won the Susan R. Meisinger Fellowship for Graduate Study in HR today at the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) Leadership Conference in National Harbor, MD.
The fellowship, named after former SHRM President and CEO Susan R. Meisinger, supports first-time master’s degree students who are either members of SHRM or certified HR professionals through the HR Certification Institute.Fellows are selected based on their leadership, work experience in HR, demonstrated community involvement, and undergraduate academic achievement. The fellowship is endowed by SHRM and its affiliates, the HR Certification Institute and the SHRM Foundation.
“Words cannot express how grateful and honored I feel to have been selected for the Susan Meisinger Fellowship award,” said Brean. “I am proud of my work and commitment in the HR profession, and it is truly exciting to be recognized in this way. I am looking forward to my master’s studies in employment and labor relations. I hope to use my education and experience to make positive contributions in my organization and within the human resources community.”
Brean will use the fellowship to fund her master’s degree in employment and labor relations from Indiana University at Pennsylvania. She graduated magna cum laude from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa. with a bachelor’s degree in human resource management. She is an assistant vice president of HR at Redstone Highlands, a non-profit offering retirement living and care options for older adults in Greensburg. Brean previously held HR positions with Nemacolin Resort and Spa and the Nesco Service Company.
