ALEXANDRIA, Va. — To better reflect its mission and service to its members, the American Council on International Personnel (ACIP) has changed its name to the Council for Global Immigration.
Since its founding in 1972, ACIP has been a top resource on employment-based immigration. The corporate name change is part of a strategic brand initiative that includes the release of a 2013 Immigration Benchmarking Survey and an updated website,
www.councilforglobalimmigration.org. The name change takes effect today.
“Our mission is to serve as a voice and resource for employers working to advance the employment-based immigration of highly educated professionals, and that does not change,” said Lynn Shotwell, executive director. “With more employers doing business and competing for talent in the global marketplace, the new name better reflects our members’ need for effective immigration policies worldwide.”
The council advocates on behalf of its members, provides technical assistance on immigration policy compliance and works with leading employers to support international trainees and interns. It is the only group that provides networking and education on the employment-based immigration of highly educated professionals.
The council’s new benchmarking survey shows that many employers are in need of global talent but face obstacles in their search for skilled professionals.
Ninety-six percent of organizations with at least 20,000 employees said the ability to obtain visas in a timely, predictable and flexible manner is, at least to some extent, critical to their organization's business objectives, the survey showed.
For 71 percent of employers surveyed, the responsibility for immigration issues rests with the human resource department.
