Six SHRM Chapters and State Councils Awarded Innovation Grants for Programs Aiding Employment of Military Veterans

July 9, 2018
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The SHRM Foundation has awarded innovation grants of up to $10,000 each to six SHRM chapters and state councils for their impactful military veterans initiatives.

The announcement by the SHRM Foundation, an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), was made in late June at the SHRM 2018 Annual Conference & Exposition in Chicago.

SHRM Foundation innovation grants support SHRM state councils and chapters working to improve their communities and build inclusive organizations. The grants recognize existing or new programs and services that have practical and measurable effects on the employment of veterans.

“The SHRM Foundation is proud to support our innovation grant award winners. These projects are grassroots-driven and designed to make a measurable difference in the communities where veterans who have transitioned from service and their families live and work,” said Wendi Safstrom, the foundation’s executive director.

Overall, their programs educate employers on how to support employees serving in the National Guard and Reserves, recognize employers committed to veteran hiring, help HR professionals write job descriptions for veterans and review veterans’ resumes, coach retiring officers on translating their military experience to civilian leadership positions, donate professional services to veterans as they prepare to re-enter the workforce, and provide courses and mentorship to transitioning service members.
