Trending Workplace Issues: Focus of 200 Presentations at the SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition June 19-22 in Washington, D.C.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Workforce trends, legislative topics and people-focused issues that recently have made headlines are some of the items that will be discussed at the upcoming Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Annual Conference & Exposition June 19-22 in Washington, D.C.

More than 15,000 HR professionals, recruiters and business leaders are expected to attend the four-day event that will feature more than 200 topic experts as speakers. 

WHAT: SHRM 2016 Annual Conference & Exposition (#SHRM16)

WHEN: June 19-22, 2016

WHERE: Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C.

Three press briefings are planned:

  • Sunday, June 19, 4:30-5:15 p.m. An update on the year-old SHRM Certification
  • Monday, June 20, 3:15-4 p.m. The 2016 SHRM Employee Benefits Survey, including a special analysis of 20 years of survey information. 
  • Tuesday, June 21, 10-10:30 a.m. The SHRM Recruiting and Skills Survey and the SHRM Foundation-Economist Intelligence Unit’s Engaging and Integrating a Global Workforce research report.

Also on Sunday, SHRM will release a politics survey on how employers are handling issues in the workplace during this year’s presidential election campaign.

  • Social Media: Protecting Employer Information vs. Employee Privacy, June 20, 7-8:15 a.m.
  • A Business Case for Hiring Veterans: Designing and Implementing a Veteran Hiring Program, June 20, 2-3:15 p.m.
  • The Tidal Wave of Millennials Is Here: Effective Leadership for Managing Multiple Generations, June 21, 10:45 a.m.-noon.
  • T-Minus 90 Days and Counting to the General Election: The Washington Outlook for HR Public Policy, June 20, 10:45 a.m. to noon.
  •  Updating Your Employment Handbook and Harassment Training to Include the LGBT Workforce, June 21, 4-5:15 p.m.

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) members Chai Feldblum and Victoria Lipnic will speak about the EEOC’s Task Force on Harassment in the Workplace, and David Weil, administrator of the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor, will address HR professionals about compliance priorities.

Advocacy: The SHRM Advocacy Team will be on Capitol Hill for a special event on Wednesday, June 22. More than 1,000 HR, talent acquisition and technology exhibitors will be available in the Exposition Hall. For more details on the conference, please visit
