SHRM in Chicago: Back-to-Back 2012 Diversity and Workflex Conferences

Alexandria, Va. – The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) will hold two back-to-back conferences in Chicago this fall. The first will be its 2012 diversity and inclusion (D&I) conference and the second a workflex conference in conjunction with the Families and Work Institute (FWI). The diversity conference will feature more than 30 sessions and is expected to draw 500 executives, managers, and HR professionals looking to boost their skills, knowledge and cultural competence in managing workplace D&I initiatives.

Sessions include:

  • “Understanding the Business Impact of Workplace Bullying”;
  • “How to Create Harmony in a Polarized Society”;
  • “Developing Culturally Competent Women Leaders”;
  • “Micro Inequity: Power of the Small”;
  • “How to Address Personality Diversity and Prejudice in the Workplace”; and
  • More onadvancing competencies in D&I, securing executive-level commitment to execute initiatives, and practical strategies for managing initiatives.

Speakers include Nobel Peace Prize Winner Leymag Gbowee of Liberia.

The workflex conferenceRe-Imagining the Workplace—is SHRM’s second annual workplace flexibility conference produced with FWI and will feature seven sessions including:

  • “How to Create and Implement a Culture of Flexible Work”;
  • “Gaining a Competitive Edge in a High Tech World Through Workflex”; and
  • “Leveraging Worklife Now and as the Economy Recovers.”

In a keynote session, actress and author Holly Robinson Peete will speak about “Luck Favors the Prepared: One Crazy Momma’s Balancing-Act Tips.”

New research from SHRM and the Congressional Management Foundation about working in Congress will be released during a press briefing 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. CDT on Oct. 24, Michigan Room. The briefing also will include a look at the new resource book the 2013 Guide to Bold New Ideas for Making Work Work. Leaders of the SHRM-Families and Work Institute initiative on workplace flexibility will be available in a question-and-answer session.
