Creating and Retaining a Diverse Workforce Focus of SHRM Conference for HR and Business Leaders, Oct. 13-15 in New Orleans

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — More than 500 human resource and business leaders from across the United States are expected to attend the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM’s) upcoming Diversity & Inclusion Conference & Exposition, which focuses on timely topics related to attracting and managing a diverse workforce.

​Conference sessions will cover how to develop a business case for diversity, how to create an organizational diversity strategy and how to provide measurable results for diversity initiatives. Topics include how to recruit numerous demographic groups, such as people from multiple generations and of different ethnicities, candidates with disabilities, and the unemployed.

DETAILS: In total, more than 30 concurrent sessions will be held at the conference, including:

  • How to Understand, Manage and Grow Your Hispanic Workforce; Monday, Oct. 13, 3:15-4:30 p.m.
  • When Generations Collide: Crucial Conversations for the Multigenerational Workforce; Monday, Oct. 13, 3:15-4:30 p.m.
  • Bias Against the Unemployed: Impact on Diversity and Organizational Capacity; Tuesday, Oct. 14, 10:15-11:30 a.m.
  • The Impact of Media Stereotypes on Diversity & Inclusion; Tuesday, Oct. 14, 10:15-11:30 a.m.
  • How to Successfully Recruit and Retain a Minority Workforce; Wednesday, Oct. 15, 9:30-10:45 a.m.
The conference also will include a table topics networking event in the Exhibition Hall on Oct. 14. Attendees are invited to participate in informal discussions moderated by SHRM staff and several concurrent speakers. Topics include the aging workforce, attracting and retaining veterans, the multigenerational workforce, new diversity and inclusion trends, and diversity metrics.

Keynote speakers include Chaz Bono, LGBTQ rights advocate, author and speaker; Shiza Shahid, co-founder and CEO, The Malala Fund; Daymond John, branding expert, founder of FUBU; and Shari Slate, chief inclusion and collaboration strategist, Cisco.
